Chapter 64

Javidnama

By Khurram Ali Shafique

Beyond Taj Mahal you notice a grand planetarium near the middle of the Garden. It is Javid Nama, the fifth enclave. Literally, the title means the Book of Eternity.

The futuristic structure of this building is held together by the symmetry between its seven dimensions. A huge plaque near the entrance provides an overview of the tour offered here:

  • Invocation
  • Prologue in Heaven
  • Prologue on Earth
    1. TheSphere of Mercury
    2. The Sphere of Moon
    3. The Sphere of Venus
    4. The Sphere of Mars
    5. The Sphere of Jupiter
    6. The Sphere of Saturn
    7. Beyond the Spheres
  • Address to Javid: a Word with the Posterity

The ‘Invocation’ is offered by Iqbal on the lawns of the planetarium. He is saying:

“O Lord! Let a day appear that does not belong to the passing time. Make me immortal and grant me the strength to tread upon the path you have laid open before me. Make my word easy for the youth to understand, for I am fed up with my old companions. I’m going to tell of another world.”
